Mississippi Continuing Education

To: Licensed Insurance Producers in the State of Mississippi:
The MID began transitioning its producer licensees and license periods with the 2009 Life, Accident and Health renewal process. All 2009 Life, Accident and Health license types expire by statute on December 31, 2009. Every license which is renewed during the 2009 renewal cycle will be given an expiration date, upon renewal, that is the last day of the month of birth of the licensee in the second year of the license renewal, with a minimum term of thirteen (13) months. Licensees who hold only a Property and Casualty will begin their transition to the new license type beginning with the 2010 P&C renewal process. If an individual holds both a L&H with an expiration of 12-31-2009 and P&C with an expiration of 5-31-2010, these license will be combined into one producer license and must be renewed by 12-31-2009. If P&C was declared as primary line and combined license was renewed without doing continuing education, producer must provide proof of 12 hours of continuing education to the Department by 5-31-2010.

The Mississippi Insurance Department Continuing Education Guidelines and Provider Packet states:

I. Insurance Producers whose license has been in effect for a license period of eighteen (18) months or less shall satisfactorily complete twelve (12) hours of study in approved continuing education courses in which the producer holds a line of authority, in order to become eligible to renew their license.

II. Insurance Producers whose license has been in effect for a license period of nineteen (19) to twenty-four (24) months shall satisfactorily complete twenty-four (24) hours of study in approved continuing education courses in which the producer holds a line of authority, of which three (3) hours shall have a course concentration in ethics, in order to become eligible to renew their license.
